Throughout high school, Katia was highly involved in various ensembles. In college, she began classical vocal training, which led to her singing the lead role in Mozart’s Bastien and Bastiena as a freshman, showcasing her talent in opera.

She also continued taking voice lessons with Emilio Avila, a voice teacher from Juarez, Mexico, who worked closely with the legendary Juan Gabriel as a songwriter and percussionist. 

After Emilio passed away, Katia continued her vocal training with Agina Alvarez, a highly successful voice teacher from Los Angeles. With Agina, Katia learned the CCM (Contemporary Commercial Music) technique, expanding her versatility as a vocalist.

Katia earned her bachelor’s degree in music education with an emphasis in voice from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and her master’s in vocal pedagogy and performance at Texas Woman’s University. Her talents have been recognized in various competitions, including West Texas Talent, where she placed 3rd in the semifinals and was ranked among the top 10 in the West Texas Talent All-Stars. She was also nominated for West Texas’s Best Female Performer.

Beyond her personal achievements, Katia has extensive experience as a voice and piano instructor. She began teaching private lessons during college and eventually expanded her studio into a multi-teacher operation, which she successfully ran for seven years. She has also participated in church choirs, performing and accompanying contemporary worship music, and co-founded a mariachi group.

With a passion for teaching and a love for all musical genres, Katia continues to inspire her students and nurture their growth as musicians.
